Marie Jordan, “Obsidian”, 2024

Marie’s practice explores the magic of nature, natural cultures and habitats and to capture the subject in its most naked form and deliver it with ease, grace and serenity to the viewer.   Marie has a true love of nature and the simplicity of unsophisticated natural beauty and her passion radiates from her work.

The subject is a majestic Friesian horse, photographed during a carefully arranged photo shoot in Holland. To enhance its striking appearance, the horse’s coat was oiled for a radiant shine, and its mane was meticulously plaited the night before to showcase it at its finest. Friesian horses are considered symbols of prestige, with top-quality specimens valued at around 2 million. While they are occasionally used in refined harness racing, where they pull lightweight chariots in an elegant display of prancing—not the chaotic chariot races of ancient Rome—the true purpose of this shoot was to capture their sheer beauty and grace as they move through their paces.
